Ministry of Tourism and Arts says crime levels at the Lower Zambezi Conservation Area have reduced following the deployment of an all-female squad of Wildlife Police Officers to patrol the area.
Speaking in an interview with Money FM News, Ministry Public Relations Officer Sakabilo Kalembwe stated that the Ministry has been working with cooperating partners such as the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) who are supporting the women wildlife officers on the ground so that crime levels can continue going down.
Mr. Kalembwe explained that Lower Zambezi and North Luangwa National Park are one of the areas where surveillance is very tight because of support from the cooperating partners.
“We are working very well with our cooperating partners to combat crime in the lower Zambezi Conservation area and the coming of USAID that are sponsoring our women on the ground, so crime level is continuously going down.”
“But we must appreciate that Lower Zambezi like the North Luangwa National Park are one of those where our surveillance is very tight because of support from these cooperating partners,” Mr. Kalembwe said.
He urged the cooperating partners to continue supporting efforts aimed at reducing crime in game management areas.
“We want to urge our cooperating partners not to relent because they are already doing a great job and our animals are protected,” he added.
