Luanshya Mayor says the local authority is rolling out various developmental projects, including the recent opening of water and sanitation facilities at Morning Market valued at a cost of K 300,000.

Speaking during the Commissioning of a modern ablution block at Morning Market along the Luanshya Masaiti-Mpongwe road, Nathan Chanda stated that Luanshya Municipal Council is committed to delivering quality services to all residents regardless of their status in society.

Mr. Chanda was optimistic that the opening of the ablution block, which comes with a borehole and a complete reticulation system, will play a crucial role in addressing challenges associated with inadequate water and sanitation facilities at the market.

He appealed to the Morning Market traders and the local leadership to take good care of the facility which should not be vandalized but instead guarded jealously.

“The only opened ablution facilities is also going to benefit motorists and commuters using the Luanshya Masaiti-Mpongwe road, who will now have access to clean and safe drinking water, decent toilets, showers and hand wash basins conveniently situated near the main road.”

“The development being witnessed in Luanshya in the recent past is a clear testimony that the promises made by President Lungu through the local government candidates during the run-up to the 2016 elections are now being fulfilled through various programmes being implemented by the local authority,” Mr. Chanda noted.

And Luanshya District Patrick Maipambe has commended Luanshya Municipal Council for having a pro-active approach in addressing various social-economic problems being experienced by residents in the area.

Meanwhile Area Councilor Edgar Daka said the construction of the market shelter, ablution block, the sinking of boreholes accompanied by a complete water reticulation system at the market is testimony of Government’s commitment to uplift the people’s standards of living.

“We have been seeing the Mayor open a Library in Mpatamatu, Police in Roan and groundbreaking in Newtown, commissioned a number of these projects Baluba, Chisokone, Maposa, Fisenge issuance of occupancy licenses and many other areas but am happy today we are in Buntungwa,” Mr. Daka said.
