CCPC cautions consumers on Black Friday promotions

• The sale will take place on 25th November, 2022.
• Some businesses may use fake or misleading sales promotions to create an illusion of a special or reduced price.
• The Commission will continue to monitor the legitimacy of various sales promotions.

Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) has cautioned all consumers participating in this year’s Black Friday grand sales to guard against false or misleading sales promotions.
Commission Public Relations Officer Rainford Mutabi told Money FM News that while Black Friday presents consumers with huge price discounts, some businesses may use fake or misleading sales promotions to create an illusion of a special or reduced price, with intent to attract unsuspecting consumers to buy their products and services.
Mr. Mutabi further urged consumers to keep all receipts, warranties and guarantees safe as the documents are required by the Commission for the initiation of investigations, especially in an event where a consumer is denied redress or treated unfairly.
“CCPC is therefore urging consumers to consider shopping around for best deals and track prices leading up to Black Friday in order to make an informed decision before purchasing any product or service.”
“The Commission will continue to monitor the legitimacy of various sales promotions and will not hesitate to punish any business or person engaging in deceptive and misleading sales promotions,” Mr. Mutabi said.
Black Friday which falls on 25th November, 2022, signifies a positive boost in retail sales as chain stores traditionally offer limited money-saving specials on a wide variety of goods in an effort to lure consumers into stores while offering similar deals online.
