Agribusiness Trade Project expects 250 SME’s by end 2022

Zambia Agribusiness Trade Project (ZATP) expects to close the year 2022 with 250 Small Medium Enterprises and 180 producer organizations that are being supported by the World Bank funded project under Ministry of Commerce Trade and Industry.

ZATP Senior Agribusiness Specialist Wilfred Mufwambi told Money FM News in an interview that it is time for Zambia to grow, take its position for production and commercialize the country’s various value chains in the market.

Mr. Mufwambi stressed on the role of Zambia to add precise value that will make a difference across the continental landscape and in Europe on food shortages by tapping into the Agriculture sector.

He noted that the project since inception had identified about 168 Small and Medium Enterprises (SME’s) out of over 450 reached out to help grow their business giving them technical assistance and matching grants to SME’s as both areas are critical for SME’s to grow.

“It is time for Zambia to grow and it is time for us to take our positions in terms of production and also industrialisation and basically commercializing our various value chain in the market,” Said the Senior Agribusiness Specialist.

According to him, Zambia has “an opportunity to tap into the agriculture sector and add precise value that will make a difference” owing to the 60% of water bodies that the country has.
