President Edgar Lungu has declared 28th April the day that the late founding father Dr. Kenneth Kaunda was born as a National Public Holiday in honor of him.
Speaking during the Dr. Kenneth Kaunda’s Church Service, President Lungu said the nation will forever celebrate Dr. Kaunda’s life for his contribution to the nation.
He stated that Zambians should emulate the character of Dr. Kaunda by being patriotic at all cost.
The Head of State noted that the nation shall continue to uphold the motto of One Zambia One Nation.
“We are a united People despite the many tribes hence the need to honor Dr. Kaunda’s Legacy,” he said
He has called on Zambians not to let anyone divide them even as the country heads towards elections.
And speaking at the same event, United National Independence Party (UNIP) President Bishop Trevor Mwamba called for peaceful general elections on 12th August in honor of Dr. Kaunda.
Bishop Mwamba further stated that Dr. Kaunda lived out his faith by not tolerating Corruption as he wanted every Zambian to have a piece of the country’s Natural Resources.
“Dr. Kaunda was one of the greatest statesmen of the country as he treated everyone equally despite tribe of religion,” he noted
Zambia’s First Republican President Dr. Kenneth Kaunda was born on 28th April, 1924 and died on 17th June, 2021 at Maina Soko Military hospital in Lusaka and has since been put to rest today at the Presidential Burial Site.
