The Bankers Association of Zambia says the performance of the banking sector in 2018 was satisfactory.
Association Public Relations Manager Mirriam Zimba says the sector remined adequately capitalized, citing that the high capital levels were adequate enough to handle the unexpected financial losses and shocks.
Ms Zimba says the sector recorded satisfactory gains that continued to compliment the capital growth in the sector.
She Zimba says the financial sector was able to meet both its primary and total capital regulatory adequate ratios that were above the minimum levels of about ten and percent.
“The total assets of the banking sector grow by 2.9 percent closing the year by 80.7 billion Kwacha.” She said.
Ms Zimba has attributed the growth to deposits recorded on government securities which are dimed to be risk free and decreased by about 6.1 percent
