Beef farmers call on govt to ‘restrict’ importation of beef

Beef farmers in Southern Province have called on Government to consider putting in place measures that will regulate the importation of beef and beef products into the country.
Immediate past Choma and Kalomo District Farmers Association Chairman Graham Mulders says the continued importation of beef and beef products into the country is hampering the growth of the local beef sector.
Mr. Mulders, who is also Alexswill Farm Proprietor, says the country has capacity to produce and meet its beefs demands without any imports.
He says it is disheartening that even when this is clear, the country has nonchalantly continued with beef imports without any of what would happen to the local industry.
Mr. Mulders has appealed to President Edgar Lungu to help stop the importation of beef and beef products into the country to help nurture and grow the local industry.
