A Non-Governmental Organization has called on government to create an enabling environment for civil society organizations to empower the less privileged by embracing an open door policy.
Speaking to Money FM News, Born Short Living Tall (BSLT) Executive Director Ntalasha Chisha said recognizing the important role of Non-Governmental Organizations in the pursuit of national vision is key to accelerated development especially for rural communities.
He however stated that the organization will establish partnerships with corporate companies, local NGOs and Members of Parliament to ensure that the vulnerable in society are empowered.
Mr. Chisha disclosed that the organization has since embarked on a campaign project aimed at empowering the needy.
“We have embarked on a campaign project dubbed ‘The BSLT Ngwee Campaign’,” which is aimed at empowering the impoverished in communities. This campaign will focus on creating employment, changing communities by providing life training skills to the vulnerable in society.”
“In our quest to offer support to the girl child, our organisation shall focus on providing free sanitary pads in rural schools. For this magnificent project to be implemented smoothly, the organisation is targeting to raise k10, 000,000 annually,” Mr. Chisha said.
He said the program, endeavors to help compliment government’s efforts in education, water, climate change, health as well as creating jobs which is the main agenda for the new administration.
Mr. Chisha added that the organization will also help the country in attaining United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) agenda which calls for action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that by 2030 all people enjoy peace and prosperity.
“We are aware that very little effort has been done to implement and institutionalize the SDGs as a fulcrum of development. As a result, BSLT will forge partnerships with corporate companies, local NGOs and Members of Parliament to ensure that the vulnerable in society are empowered,” he stated.
He further said the organisation will raise funds to run the project through robust fundraising concepts and initiatives that will bring on board every Zambian citizen.
The motto for the campaign is “making a difference has never been this easy”.
