Zambia Youths Association in the Fight against Corruption says it expects parliament to deal with adjustments on the budget which has been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic as it resumes its seating today.
Association Executive Director Morris Malambo explained to Money FM News in a Press Query that following measures that government has put in place to fight the pandemic, the expenditure has been adjusted upwards and the revenue has suffered setbacks.
“As a matter of urgency, parliament must deal with adjustment of the budget which has been thrown out of perspective due to the corona virus pandemic on a number of fronts.” He said.
Mr. Malambo said among areas affected the most, has been the mining sector where there has been a waiver on importation of concentrates.
He further requested parliamentarians to look at what is in the best interest of the country with regards to the proposal of adjustments in the constitution over the Bill 10.
“There is need for parliamentarians to look at the bill in principal and not from a partisan view.” He said.
Meanwhile Transparency International Zambia (TIZ) has urged Parliamentarians to rise above partisan interests and reject the Bill in order to protect not just their individual and collective legacy, but also aspirations of the people they represent in the House.
“We are cautiously hopeful that they will demonstrate this loyalty by rejecting Bill 10 when it comes up during this sitting of Parliament.” He said.
In a statement to Money FM News, Chapter President Reuben Lifuka said it is TIZ’s belief that the primary loyalty for all Parliamentarians should be Zambians.
