BuyZed calls for local printing of ballot papers

• Government printers can be capacitated to ensure that the institution is able to print ballot papers.
• Quasi-government institutions should show interest in growing the local economy.
• Zambians must demand that capacities be built to begin to print ballot papers within Zambia.

BuyZed Campaign has called on Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) to consider printing ballot papers locally for all future elections.
Speaking in an interview with Money FM News, Organization Founder Evans Zulu stated that 57 years after Zambia’s Independence, there is need to begin to look around the country for solutions to the all its challenges.
Mr. Ngoma challenged quasi- government institutions to show interest in growing the local economy.
“So we are calling on the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) to consider looking within Zambia for printing of ballot papers for all the elections that they will be holding from now going forward,” Mr. Ngoma said.
Mr. Ngoma stated that the organization is aware that Government printers can be capacitated to ensure that the institution is able to print ballot papers.
“We heard in 2011 from one government official at Government Printers who said that they have the capacity to print ballot papers within Zambia. But I think that was shot down but otherwise had we started, today we could have been self-sustaining and we could keep those huge sums of money that go towards printing of ballot papers within Zambia ,” he stated.
Mr. Ngoma has also called on Zambians to demand that capacities be built to begin to print ballot papers within the country so as to keep the huge sums of money that go towards printing of ballot papers in Zambia.
Efforts to get a comment from ECZ on the matter failed.
