CAPIZ urges farmers, Govt to embrace irrigation

Christians Against Poverty in Zambia (CAPIZ) has encouraged both government and farmers to embrace irrigation due to the changes in the weather patterns.
CAPIZ Founder Evangelist Gregory Chileshe says it is high time that farmers stopped the mentality of waiting for the season of rain.
Evangelist Chileshe has told Money FM News that rain should just be a supplement to initiatives of collecting water from the ground.
“We can collect water from both above and below. Scientifically speaking it is not difficult to capture and divert to storage facilities some of the rains that come from above as a blessing from God in heaven. God expects us to think to cushion in dry seasons and in droughts like we are experiencing right now. We can buy or develop machinery to capture and control the flow of some of the rains falling all over and take it to areas of development where agriculture activities are taking place,” he said.
He said the country can take advantage of the water Zambia has more than any other SADC country and collect this water to the needful areas.
“Boreholes must be sank, center pivots, small scale and large scale drip irrigation system be supported for season and off season farming and agriculture will beat mining further more in terms of employment, revenue and food supply locally and internationally, said Evangelist Chileshe.
