Markets and Bus stations critical to the country’s economy.

Ministry of Local government says markets and bus stations are a critical part of the country’s economy as they help to meet the demand for goods and services and also provide a livelihood for people.

Speaking during a meeting with Marketers’ Associations in Lusaka, Local Government Minister Charles Banda says trading places and Bus stations remain highly vulnerable to disease outbreaks such as the deadly COVID 19 as common meeting places emphasizing the need for market communities to ensure places are kept safe from the diseases.

“Given the importance of the Markets and Bus stations, Government’s desire is to keep these services running as long as possible while safeguarding the health of the traders and the rest of the people in these areas.” He said.

Dr Banda said Government’s desire is to keep the services running as long as possible while safeguarding the health of the traders and the rest of the people in the areas.

“ If we don’t undertake some measures now, the situation may deteriorate to a point where markets and bus stations may have to be closed.” He said

He said this can only be achieved if environments are kept clean at all times.
