A joint inspection team comprising Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) and Mushindamo Municipal Council has seized goods worth K734 in 10 trading premises of Mushindamo’s Central Business District in North-Western Province.
Commission Public Relations Officer Rainford Mutabi said this follows an inspection conducted by the team yesterday, adding that the seized goods were expired and not fit for human consumption.
Mr. Mutabi stated that selling or offering for sale products not fit for purpose or expired is against the Competition and Consumer Protection Act No. 24 of 2010 as well as the Food and Safety Act No. 7 of 2019.
“The seized goods include; Black Panther, Energizer and Bibe Cola energy drinks as well as Cremica, Vanilla and Baby Biscuits among others,” Mr. Mutabi said.
He advised traders to abide by the law and desist from engaging in unfair trading practices or any conduct that erode consumer welfare.
“In light of this, the CCPC and MMC wish to warn all suppliers, retailers and distributors to seize selling unsuitable products which have exceeded or are close to reaching their shelf life.”
“Meanwhile, CCPC and MMC will continue working together and enforcing their respective mandates in a quest to ensure trader’s compliance with the law and consumer protection in Zambia,” he added.
