Lusaka City Council (LCC) has launched the orientation workshop on the recently launched Constituency Development Fund (CDF) guidelines for CDF Committees, Ward Development Committees (WDC) and various stakeholders on the recently launched CDF Guidelines.
Council Town Clerk Alex Mwansa says Government has for years been implementing decentralized systems of governance, the objective of which stems from the need of citizenry to exercise control over their local affairs and Foster meaningful development.
Mr. Mwansa notes in order for this to occur, some degree of authority is required to be decentralized to the provincial District and sub levels such as the WDC and CDFC such as devolution of funds to constituencies form of CDF under the fiscal component of decentralization the tool government uses to foster the vision.
He has since added that that the increase in the allocation of the fund is made in an effort to improve and cater for a wider community impact.
“You will all agree with me that Lusaka is blessed with 7 constituencies, we are faced with a lot of challenges ranging from sanitation, waste management and flooding among others,” said Mr. Mwansa.
The Town Clerk is, “convinced beyond reasonable doubt that if we unite as a district, constituencies and put this CDF to good use a number of these challenges will be resolved.”
Mr. Mwansa has since implored participants to be attentive and ask questions where not clear in order to educate communities who may not have had an opportunity to attend the orientation workshop.
