CEEC disburses 82, 068 business loans valued at K840 million in 2023

• Across the loan products, the Commission has disbursed a total of 82, 068 business loans valued at over K840 million.
• With regards to marketeers booster loans, CEEC disbursed 74, 392 loans valued at over K159 million.
• For the Busulu loan product, the Commission has disbursed to over 7, 062 recipients across the country.

Citizens Economic Empowerment Commission (CEEC) says it disbursed a total of 82, 068 business loans valued at over K840 million in 2023.
Speaking in an interview with Money FM News, Commission Public Relations and Communications Manager Michelo Mukata said with regards to marketeers booster loans, CEEC disbursed 74, 392 loans valued at over K159 million.
Mr. Mukata also revealed that 7, 062 people have benefited from the Busulu microfinance loan product across the country, with about 84 percent of recipients being women and the youth.
“2023 has been an exciting year for us in terms of disbursements and recoveries. Across the loan products, the Commission has disbursed a total of 82, 068 business loans valued at over K840 million, and in relation to the marketeer booster loan, what the Commission has disbursed is 74, 392 loans valued at over K159 million.”
“For the Busulu loan product which is a microfinance product, the Commission has disbursed to over 7, 062 recipients across the country, and about 84 percent of the recipients of the Busulu business loans are women and the youth,” Mr. Mukata stated.
He added that the Commission is making some significant strides to addressing the financing gap that women and the youth have faced.
“This goes to address our objective of ensuring affordable finance reaches the marginalized and in this case the women and youth, who have not had as equal access to empowerment opportunities previously, but with the introduction of the Busulu loan product, the Commission is happy to announce that we are making some significant strides to addressing that financing gap that women and the youth have faced,” he added.
Mr. Mukata further disclosed that 430 Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) have received funding under project financing, while 184 business loans valued at K148 million have been disbursed under trade finance, which is short term financing for start-ups and already existing businesses.
“For project financing, 430 SMEs have received financing valued at over K460 million and for trade finance which is short term financing for start-ups or already existing businesses, 184 of these business loans have been disbursed to the value of K148 million,” he said.
