CEEC disburses over K90 million under marketeers booster loans

• This puts CEEC on course to make full disbursements of K171, 500, 000 to all the 75, 000 marketeers being targeted.
• The determinant or revision in the loan amounts is due diligence which is a very critical process.
• Marketeers should remain patient as the Commission conducts due diligence.

Citizens Economic Empowerment Commission (CEEC) has disclosed that it has so far disbursed over K90 million to 32,407 marketeers countrywide under the marketeers booster loans.

Speaking in an interview with Money FM News, Commission Public Relations and Communications Manager Michelo Mukata said this puts CEEC on course to make full disbursements of K171, 500, 000 to all the 75, 000 marketeers being targeted.

He asked the marketeers to remain patient as the Commission conducts due diligence in order to make the disbursements to the right people.

“The Commission has disbursed over K90 million to 32,407 marketeers countrywide and this is putting us on course to make full disbursements to all the 75, 000 marketeers that we are targeting and complete the disbursement of the K171, 500, 000.”

“So what we are asking for is patience as we conduct the necessary exercises, due diligence and also verification in order to make the disbursements to the right people and also fund sustainable businesses,” Mr. Mukata said.

Mr. Mukata further explained that CEEC has faced a challenge of making full disbursements to some of the marketeers because of incorrect phone numbers that have hampered disbursements through mobile money services.

“The determinant or revision in the loan amounts is due diligence which is a very critical process when we are going through the disbursement exercise. Aside from that, we have also discovered that during this process of disbursement, some marketeers were putting contact details that are not registered in their names because we are using mobile money services across the various mobile service providers to make these disbursements. When we first started we noticed that money was going to individuals so we halted the process in order to verify,” he added.

On 17th November 2022, President Hakainde Hichilema officially launched the Marketeers Booster Loans Empowerment Program which is expected to benefit over 75,000 marketeers countrywide.
