Bwana Mkubwa Member of Parliament Dr. Jonas Chanda has encouraged groups in his constituency who benefitted from the chicken rearing project to open bank accounts and manage their funds well.
Dr. Chanda tells Money FM News that it is important that the groups of women and youths who have benefitted from the project ensure that they plough back most of the money into chicken rearing or any other profitable business venture.
He says so far he has given empowerment to about thirty community clubs in Kavu, Katondo, Ndeke and Makense.
He said the remaining communities are in Kantolomba, Kaloko and Chichele who will receive the empowerment in the next one week.
“Priority is productivity and wealth creation, rather than mere instant gratification and consumption. Over 6 weeks ago, we started supporting chicken empowerment projects for various community clubs in Mushili Township. Each club received a package of 300 small “Chicks”, 19 bags of chicken feed, drinkers, feeders, vaccines and other medicines,” he said.
“I’ve been inspecting chicken rearing projects in Mushili where we started from as the chickens are ready for sale. I’ve been very impressed with the strong commitment and work ethic of our mothers, youths and even older men in ensuring the chickens are well-reared. They even have work schedules/timetables with a duty Rota assigning people to work at various times in the chicken runs.”
Dr. Chanda said altogether, 40 community clubs with a combined membership of 1,200 members are benefitting from empowerment projects in Bwana Mkubwa constituency, which includes 4 youth clubs engaged in block making and cementing selling.
He said he is lobbying the Ministry of Community Development and other stakeholders to supplement this empowerment support coming part of the 2017 CDF which is K395, 000.
