• The construction industry has also been badly hit by the pandemic.
• Government has put in place measures to ensure the economy remains afloat.

Zambia Association of Youth Contractors and Suppliers says most projects in the construction sector have stalled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Association President Thomas Kamawe told Money FM News in an interview that just like other sectors; the construction industry has also been badly hit by the pandemic as most youth led businesses are not performing as expected.
Mr. Kamawe stated that despite Government doing everything possible to see to it that the impact of the virus is cushioned; the sector has continued to face challenges due to the pandemic.
“We acknowledge the efforts that Government has put in place to ensure that the economy remains afloat as well as the construction sector and that is commendable. Even if construction works are not 100 percent moving, the association is able to see consistency in Government’s efforts to help the sector,” Mr. Kamawe noted.
He however said the Association is hopeful that the new strategies being put in place by both Government and the Association will help keep the sector afloat.
And Mr. Kamawe called on Government to continue empowering youth led construction businesses by awarding them with huge contracts as young people are the drivers of the economy.
