Ministry of Tourism and Arts has advised contactors and other development players to value art work because it forms an important segment in tourism development of the country.
Director of Arts and Culture at Ministry of Tourism and Arts Patricia Muyamwa has since called for the appreciation of efforts put in by artists in coming up with art works.
Mrs. Muyamwa has expressed concern that the rhino statue that was erected at the Longacres area bus stop has been brought down by AFCONS Construction Company building the flyway bridge in the area, without consulting anyone including the department in charge of such works in the Ministry.
“Artistic works are talent worth support from Government and also the Zambian people themselves,” she said.
And Kachere Arts Studio founder Alexis Phiri said the outfit needs about US$100, 000 to reconstruct the artwork in period of three months.
He said the initial peace was built at a cost of about US$50, 000 in 2012 with the support of several stakeholders including Absa (Barclays) Bank, Alendo Travel and Tours and several community members.
Mr. Phiri expressed happiness that Government has come in and listened to the artists and now in the forefront to see that artwork is reconstructed.
“To us that shows care and a brilliant way forward in continuing to highlight the plight of endangered species and keeping our environment clean and green,” he said.
He said the initiative even had the support of then President Michael Sata as some of the paper and plastic waste came from State House.
