Convention Centre to put Samfya on global spotlight

• Yet to be constructed international convention centre to place Samfya on the global map.
• Convention centre to boost beach tourism in the country.
• 2000 local jobs to be created during construction phase.

Luapula Provincial Administration says the coming of an international convention centre to Samfya will put the district on the global tourism spotlight.
In an interview with Money FM, Luapula Expo Media officer, Godfrey Chikumbi said the Samfya International Convention Centre, whose construction will commence in March this year, will be able to rival other international convention centres in the world.
‘‘The Convention Centre in Samfya will have the potential to compete with facilities like the Cape Town International Convention in hosting international conferences,’’ Mr. Chikumbi said.
He also added that the convention centre will boost beach tourism in Zambia as it will be constructed on the shores of Lake Bangweulu.
‘‘ Lake Bangweulu is unique as it is the only place in Zambia where you find white beach sand, and is wholly owned by Zambia as it is not shared with any other country like other lakes,’’ Mr. Chikumbi said.
‘‘Beach tourism will thrive as many people will visit the convention centre located at the shores.’’
And Mr. Chikumbi disclosed that about 2000 local jobs will be created during the construction phase of the convention centre.
The construction of the Samfya International Convention Centre is being undertaken by Workers Compensation Fund Control Board.
