Both teams have qualified for the 2023 FIFA World Cup

The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has announced that it has jointly organized an international friendly match with the Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB) between the Orange Lionesses and the Copper Queens on October 6 in Breda.

In a statement, FAZ General Secretary Adrian Kashala says the friendly match was part of the well laid out plan to prepare the Copper Queens for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup to be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand.

Kashala has described the friendly match as a huge moment for the 2022 COSAFA Women’s Championship winners, the Copper Queens that already participated at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo and want to leave a mark at the 2023 FIFA World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

“This is a huge moment for the Copper Queens that already participated at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo and want to leave a mark at the 2023 FIFA World Cup in Australia/New Zealand,” says Kashala.

At the beginning of this month, the Lionesses qualified for the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand under the leadership of the new national coach Andries Jonker.

Zambia qualified for the World Cup for the first time last July by reaching the semi-finals in the African Cup with South Africa, Nigeria and Morocco, which South Africa eventually won.

The last time the Orange squad played against Zambia, it won 10-3 in the opening game of the Olympic Games in Japan. Vivianne Miedema then scored four times while Barbra Banda netted a hattrick.
