Copperbelt International Airport at 90% completion

• Copperbelt like any other Province has recorded unprecedented development.
• We are at 90% completion.
• Despite Covid-19, there is significant progress.

Copperbelt Permanent Secretary says works on the construction of the Copperbelt International Airport have reached 90 percent completion level.
Speaking in an interview with Money FM News, Bright Nundwe stated that despite the Covid-19 pandemic which has affected most economic activities, there is significant progress on the project.
Mr. Nundwe said the contractor; Avic International is currently on site, adding that government has attached deep premium on the vegetation as the sub-contractors have already started planting trees and grass.
He added that government’s objective is to ensure that the facility, which is being constructed at a cost of US$397 million, is completed by March or April this year.
“The Copperbelt like any other Province has recorded unprecedented development, and one of the most significant projects is the Copperbelt International Airport which is at 90% completion. We have made very significant progress. In the midst of Covid-19 I must confess that despite such, there is very progressive development on that Airport.”
“Everybody is on site they are working and at the moment we have attached serious and deep premium on the vegetation, as I am talking the subcontractors at the moment are planting trees and grass. Our target as government is that we want this facility to be surrendered to government at least latest by March or April,” Mr. Nundwe said.
And Mr. Nundwe commended the main contractor, and all subcontractors who have been engaged to construct the Airport for the job well-done.
He said despite most people losing confidence in the Zambian contractors, those that have been engaged to do the project have done exceptionally well.
“Therefore I must commend the main contractor, and the all the sub-contractors that have been engaged to put up such a brilliant project in a very spectacular manner, they have done a commendable job, and this is how it should be.”
“Most people engaged to do that job are Zambians and certain people have lost confidence in the Zambian contractors, but I must confess here that we have may one or two but for me Zambians have done an exceptional job at the Airport.”
Mr. Nundwe encouraged the contractors to continue exhibiting a good work culture when given huge projects.
