Cost of living reduces to K8, 850.38 – JCTR

The Cost of living for a family of five in Lusaka as measured by the Jesuit Centre for Theological Reflection (JCTR) Basic Needs and Nutrition Basket for month of September 2022 stood at K8, 850.38.Ngwe.

This development follows a recorded decrease of K227.48.Ngwee from the month of August as disclosed by JCTR Social and Economic Development Programmes Manager Muchimba Siamachoka.

Ms. Siamachoka said the downward movement in the basked is attributed to reduced prices in items such as other fruits, fresh milk and chicken. Non-food but essential items section also recorded a decrease.

She however revealed, the basket recorded notable increases in items, such as bananas and vegetables.

According to Ms. Siamachoka, Interrogation of the September basket revealed that the seasonal shift continues to affect price movement in selected basket items as reflected by prices of vegetables and charcoal.
