A Consumer Body has charged that the decision by the Energy Regulation Board to increase the cost of fuel shows that government no longer has policies that can protect consumers from external forces.
Africa Consumer Union First Vice President Muyunda Ililonga says in an interview with Money FM that it is up to consumers to be prudent in the management of their resources under current economic challenges.
Mr. Ililonga further adds that government should at least consider the vulnerable in society when arriving at decisions to hike the price of fuel and other commodities.
The Energy Regulation Board yesterday increased the pump price of petrol from 15-kwacha 20 ngwee to 15-kwacha 98 ngwee while Diesel has increased from 13-kwacha 43 ngwee to 14-kwacha 23 ngwee.
A litre of Kerosene will now cost 13-kwacha 2 ngwee from 11-kwacha thirty-four ngwee representing an increase of 1 kwacha sixty-eight ngwee while Liquified Petroleum Gas will cost 16-kwacha 52 ngwee from 15-kwacha seventy-two ngwee representing an eighty ngwee increment.
