DEC nabs man with over K28, 000 Counterfeit notes

• The suspect was arrested in Kapata Market in Chipata, Eastern Province.
• He was in possession of counterfeit notes worth K 28,400 and USD 300.
• The counterfeit notes were found in the pocket of his pair of trousers.

Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) says it has arrested a 37 year man of Lusaka’s Libala Compound for being in possession of counterfeit notes worth K 28,400 and USD 300.
Commission Public Relations Officer Mathias Kamanga disclosed to Money FM News that this is contrary to Section 358 of the Penal Code Cap 87 of the laws of Zambia.
Mr. Kamanga stated that the suspect, identified as Jonas Mpundu was arrested in Kapata Market in Chipata district, Eastern Province after he was found with the counterfeit notes that were in the pocket of his pair of trousers.
“The Drug Enforcement Commission in Eastern Province has arrested Jonas Mpundu a male aged 37 of Libala Compound in Lusaka for being in possession of counterfeit notes worth K 28,400 and USD 300 which is contrary to Section 358 of the Penal Code Cap 87.”
“He was arrested in Kapata Market in Chipata after he was found with the counterfeit notes that were in the pocket of his pair of trousers,” Mr. Kamanga said.
Meanwhile, Mr. Kamanga revealed that the Commission has arrested three people for trafficking in illicit drugs contrary to the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act 35 of 2021 of the Laws of Zambia.
He said in Central Province, the Commission arrested 48 year old Oliver Chiyobwa Chilaika Village for trafficking in 12.6 Kilograms of loose cannabis.
Mr. Kamanga added that the suspect was nabbed after he was found with cannabis that was concealed in a yellow plastic bag and a carton box covered in the chicken run outside his house.
“Lusaka Province, the Commission has arrested Boston Sakala a male aged 21 of Chawama Compound for trafficking in 3.12 grams of Heroin and 23.3 grams of Cannabis.”
“In a separate incident, a suspect identified as Mohamed Khalil Ahmed a male aged 33 years of Roma Township was arrested for trafficking in 156.8 grams of Cannabis and 40 mills of Hashish oil. He was arrested in Roma Township and a motor vehicle was seized from him,” he disclosed.
He said all the suspects are currently in police custody and are yet to appear in court.
