The Grain Traders Association of Zambia (GTAZ) laments that the decision by the government to put an administrative measure on the export of maize outside the country has negatively affected grain traders.
Minister of Agriculture Michael Katambo told Parliament last week that government has put an administrative measure on the export of maize outside the country.
Mr. Katambo said the restrictive measure is not a ban but a temporal measure to ensure food security in the nation.
He attributed administrative restriction as due to Food Reserve Agency (FRA) not reaching the strategic national reserve of purchasing 500,000 metric tonnes of maize.
But Grain Traders Association of Zambia Executive Director Chambuleni Simwinga says some of the grain traders had running contracts to supply maize saying this will affect their business.
Mr. Simwinga observes the need to strengthen consultative processes in order to ensure that the players in the industry are not affected with such measures.
