The Ministry of Tourism and Arts has warned poachers and illegal wildlife traders that the law will soon catch up with them
Minister in Charge Dr. Charles Banda says Wildlife is a major part of the tourism sector and it continues to be a significant base for tourism development in Zambia.
Dr. Banda was speaking when he handed over 13 Ford Ranger vehicles valued K5, 348,762.32 to the Department of National Parks and Wildlife (DNPW) this morning.
He says government considers wildlife an important component of the country’s natural capital and desires to secure it for economic growth, poverty alleviation and preservation of the country’s heritage.
And DNPW Director Paul Zyambo says the department has taken the occasion as challenge to catch the poachers and protect the wildlife heritage.
He said the vehicles would also help the department in collecting the necessary revenues and move to attend to human wildlife demands across the country.
This is the second handover of vehicles made within the month of May 2019 after the recently 12 Nissan Hard Bodies that were given to the department.
