ECZ slashes 2021 General Elections Nomination Fees

The Electoral Commission of Zambia says it has revised downwards the proposed nomination fees for the 2021 General Elections that are scheduled to be held on 12th August, 2021.
Commission Public Relations Manager Margaret Chimanse told Money FM News that this follows submissions by the Zambia Centre for Inter-Party Dialogue (ZCID), United Party for National Development (UPND) and other stakeholders.
“In considering the adjustment to the proposed nomination fees, the Commission took into account all the stakeholders submissions and concerns, as well as other factors such as inflation, increased cost of conducting nominations and polls, including the issuance of the free Voter Registers to all Presidential candidates which cost K610,000.00 per candidate,” Ms. Chimanse stated.
Ms. Chimanse further said the Commission is grateful to all Political Parties and Stakeholders for the cordial engagement and submissions regarding the proposed fees.
“Political parties and aspiring candidates shall be required to pay the nomination fees four weeks before the nomination date to allow effective and efficient processing of the nominations,” she said.
According to the adjusted fees, Male Presidential candidates will be required to pay K95, 000 from the earlier proposed K150, 000 while female candidates will pay K75, 000, the Youth and Persons with disabilities will be required to pay K60, 000.
Fees for Parliamentary Male candidates have been pegged at K15, 000, Female aspirants at K13, 500, while the Youth and Persons with disabilities will be paying K10, 000.
In the Mayoral category, Male candidates will be paying K15, 000, Female aspirants K13, 500, whereas the Youth and Persons with disabilities will be required to pay K10, 000.
And in the Council Chairperson category, Male aspirants will be paying K3, 500, Female 3,000, Youth 2,500 and Persons with disabilities Candidates K2,500.
Charges for Male Councilors (City/Municipal) have been Placed at K1,500, Female candidates at K1,000, the Youth at K1,000, Persons with disabilities Candidates at K1,000 while Male (Town/District) K600, Female, the Youth and Persons with disabilities K500.
