Emerald miners welcome Copperbelt Expo

The Emerald and Semi-Precious Stones Association of Zambia says the Copperbelt Expo is coming at the correct time when the province needs serious diversification from Copper dependence.
Association President Victor Kalesha says the association is delighted and are optimistic that the expo will bring out a lot of positive results looking at the untapped investment potential in agriculture, forestry, tourism and gemstone mining.
Mr. Kalesha says the association will take this opportunity before and during the expo to attract investors to gemstone mining as well value addition in gemstone polishing and ornament designing.
“We produce all the gemstones and auction the all to create jobs for our colleagues in foreign countries who do cutting and polishing. We will explore every opportunity to attract investors to the sector even those who can just help us with equipment,” he said.
“After a successful interaction with the President, it is obvious that there is good will on the part of government to develop the country.”
He said there is no better time than this to take advantage of attracting investors to the sleeping giant in gemstone mining.
He has also appealed to the local investors not to shun away from potential investments like emerald mining because it’s a huge income generator if there is enough equipment and operating capital.
“We wish to congratulate the Copperbelt Administration for coming up with this initiative of hosting the expo on the richest province in Zambia. This expo will be an eye opener to the huge unrecognized investment potential,” said Mr. Kalesha.
“All we need as a province is to be strategic on what kind of investors we are inviting to this expo they shouldn’t be time wasters.”
He said Zambia needs to start now exploring the potential investment markets like China, India, Israel, USA, Germany, Canada and Germany.
