Energy Expert advises ZNS to focus on cooking oil production

• They can focus on cooking oil as a value add to crops being grown.
• Lubricant formulation and blending is very technical though it can be done.
• In Zambia there are only two oil companies which produce lubricants.

An Energy Expert has advised Zambia National Service (ZNS) to focus on cooking oil production as a value add to crops being grown as opposed to Lubricant formulation.
Dr. Johnstone Chikwanda stated that Lubricant formulation and blending is very technical and highly complex although it can still be done, as Zambia only has two oil companies which produce lubricants.
“I suggest they focus on cooking oil as a value add to crops being grown. Lubricant formulation and blending is very technical though it can be done. In Zambia there are only two oil companies which produce lubricants. Otherwise, great news and way to go,” Dr. Chikwanda stated.
He further advised ZNS to also consider setting up a construction company to work on roads and housing as it plans to operationalize seven companies.
“They can also set up a construction company to do roads and housing. I just thought lubricants formulation and blending business is a bit of an outlier and highly complex though it can be done as well. I commend ZNS command,” he added.
Zambia National Service is in the process of operationalizing seven companies to be run by civilians in a bid to contribute to job creation and reduce the high levels of youth unemployment in the country.
According to ZNS Commander Lieutenant General Maliti Solochi, the firms which include among others, a security company, a block and pavers making company, an oil and lubricant company, an event and advertising company as well as a cleaning fall under the newly established branch called trades and services.
