ERB has no intentions to hike fuel prices

• ERB will continue to closely monitor prices of petroleum products on the international market.
• Domestic Fuel prices have not changed since December 2019.
• Price determination is carried out in consultation with key stakeholders.

Energy Regulation Board (ERB) says it currently has no intentions to hike fuel prices contrary to some recent media reports.
In a statement, Board Acting Communions Officer Kasonde Nkhole said ERB will inform the public if there will be any changes because the process of price determination is carried out in consultation with key stakeholders in the industry.
Mr. Nkhole however stated that the Board will continue to closely monitor prices of petroleum products on the international market as well as the performance of the Kwacha against the US dollar.
“As the institution legally mandated to determine the price of energy products and services in the country, the process of price determination is carried out in consultation with key stakeholders in the industry,” Mr. Nkhole said.
He noted that local fuel prices have remained unchanged since December 2019 despite changes in fuel prices on the international market, and depreciation of the Kwacha against the US dollar.
“This has been made possible by various government policy interventions that most recently resulted in tax waivers to cushion against upward adjustment in prices of petroleum products,” he stated.
Mr. Nkhole urged members of the public to report any possible breaches to the Agency.
