Former NISIR Board Chairperson arrested for Abuse of Authority of office

• She was arrested on February 15, 2023 in Lusaka.
• Between 2017 and 2021, she purchased a house from the Institute at a reduced price of 40 percent.
• This is a condition of NISIR employees, which category she did not belong to.

Police Investigations Team has charged and arrested former Board Chairperson at National Institute for Scientific and Industrial Research (NISIR), for Abuse of Authority of office.
Deputy Police Public Relations Officer Danny Mwale revealed that Dr. Judith Ngalande Lungu 71, of Luangwa residential area in Kabwe, purchased a house from the Institute at a reduced price of 40 percent.
Mr. Mwale said this is a condition for employees of the institute, the category which Dr. Lungu did not belong to.
He stated that this happened between 2017 and 2021, at the time Dr. Lungu served as the Institute’s Board Chairperson.
“She was arrested on February 15, 2023 in Lusaka. Brief facts of the case are that Dr. Lungu between 2017 and 2021 at the time she served as Board Chairperson at the National Institute for Scientific and Industrial Research (NISIR) purchased a house from the Institute at a reduced price of 40 percent, a condition of NISIR employees, which category she did not belong to,” Mr. Mwale said.
He added that Dr. Lungu was released on Police Bond and will appear in court soon.
