Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) has disclosed that it has a 22 year old former student at a known University for two counts of Trafficking in 31 grams and 800 grams of cannabis respectively.
Commission Public Relations Officer Hussein Khan identified the suspect as Twambo Sichombo, who was apprehended in the Mass Media area with 20 cupcakes laced with cannabis weighing 800 grams, while a search of his room led to the discovery of 31 grams of loose cannabis.
Mr. Khan revealed that Sichombo is believed to have been selling the cannabis laced cupcakes to students in the Mass Media and surrounding areas.
He warned all individuals involved in selling cannabis and other illegal drugs to desist from such acts as they will face the law once found wanting.
“He is detained in lawful custody will appear in court soon. The Commission will not condone and watch selfish individuals peddle drugs to youths in learning institutions thereby derailing their academic progression,” Mr. Khan said.
Meanwhile, Mr. Khan disclosed that the Commission has arrested two people identified as Chipungu Sikonde 29, and Justine Mulenga 23, both of Mpulungu District, for trafficking in 285 rolls of loose cannabis weighing 301 kilograms, contrary to the Laws of Zambia.
Mr. Khan said the two suspects were apprehended at a known filling station in Mpulungu, adding that the contraband was wrapped in banana leaves and concealed in black plastics.
“The Commission has jointly charged and arrested Chipungu Sikonde, a male aged 29 and Justine Mulenga, a male aged 23 both of Mpulungu District for trafficking in 285 rolls of loose cannabis weighing 301 kilograms contrary to section 15 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act No. 35 of 2021 of the Laws of Zambia. They are detained in lawful custody and will appear in court soon,” he stated.
