A French company specialized in the provision of solar street lighting has expressed interest to invest in Zambia.
Presenting his investment pitch to the Embassy Chargé d’affaires, Chrissy Hilweele at the Chancery in Paris, Sunna Design Project Sales Executive in charge of Africa Leonard Fournioux underscored his company’s interest in supporting the Zambian authorities in implementing solar street lighting projects across the country.
Mr. Fournioux said once approved, the project will involve the provision of solar-powered, autonomous, intelligent, and connected public lighting which will address the major public policy issues of access to clean, sustainable lighting and insecurity.
“Sunna Design is ready to offer technical expertise and our dedicated finance team will put in place various financial packages through collaborating with international financial institutions to successfully implement the project. Our state of art streetlights are monitored remotely using an application called Sunnapp and have an anti-theft design with a battery lifespan of more than 15 years,” He said
Mr. Fournioux is scheduled to travel to Zambia on a four day working visit this month, to meet key stakeholders such as the Ministry of Energy and Rural Electrification Authority critical to the successful implementation of his investment project.
And Mr Hilweele stated that Sunna Design’s intention to invest in Zambia’s renewable energy sector has come at a right time when the country is facing challenges of electricity deficit compounded by severe effects of climate change.
“Climate change has had a very big impact on the generation of electricity in Zambia, so such alternative sources of power are welcome,” Mr Hilweele stated.
He encouraged Sunna Design to create joint ventures with the locals in order to empower the communities and transfer technological skills.
