FSDZambia, MTN to address financial services barriers for unbanked

The Financial Sector Deepening Zambia has partnered with a local network service provider to work towards addressing barriers that women and youths face in accessing financial services by use of digital platforms.
FSD Zambia Chief Executive officer Betty Wilkinson has emphasized on the need for financial services that are more accessible, easy to understand and affordable for the underserved.
Ms. Wilkinson says the two institutions will focus on ensuring the use of mobile financial platforms for payment of school fees and improving mobile money access to savings groups.
She was speaking when FSDZ signed an agreement with MTN Mobile Money in Lusaka today.
MTN General Manager for Mobile Financial Services Edmund Barwuah says building financial Literacy Skills can remove the barriers that the marginalised communities face.
Mr. Barwuah says Telecommunications have an innovative role in improving the lives of underserved and unbanked in society further noting that women and the youth face the greatest Barriers in accessing financial services.
He has noted that focus areas in the signed partnership include improving awareness and usage of digital platforms for payment of school fees as well as the use of savings platforms for youths.
The MTN General Manager adds that they will also train young leaders and learners on the use of the platform.
