• The challenge in the Kafue National Park is loss of habitat and disturbance on animal corridors.
• This is because of human activities in animal corridors.
• Encroachers turn out to be poachers thereby diminishing animals.
Ministry of Tourism and Arts says encroachment into the Kafue National Park has resulted in loss of habitat and disturbance on animal corridors.
Speaking in an interview with Money FM News, Ministry Public Relations Officer Sakabilo Kalembwe stated that people who have encroached in the national park turn out to be poachers, thereby diminishing animals that tourists want to come and see.
Mr. Kalembwe was however hopeful that the coming on board of the African Park will ensure that the encroachers are removed so that animals are able to move freely.
“The challenge that we have in the Kafue National Park is the loss of habitat and disturbance on animal corridors. The biggest problem that we have is the loss of habitat because of human activities in animal corridors. When these people are encroaching on these places, they are the same people that turn out to be poachers thereby diminishing the same animals that tourists want to come and see.”
“The loss that we can count on is, are people having the products that tourists should come and see in the Kafue national park or not” that is where the problem is. With the coming in of the African Park, we are praying that these people will be moved out so that animals are able to move back in the corridors,” Mr. Sakabilo said.
