Government calls on Manufacturers to comply with regulations, standards

• Quality and standards of products enables consumers, suppliers and regulators.
• Government has continued to enhance efforts to promote quality and productivity.
• Participation in standardization enables the country to be well informed on standards that can enhance attainment of SDGs.

Government has called on Manufacturers in the country to ensure that their products are of consistent high quality, comply with regulations and standards, and meet set specifications.
Speaking during the launch of the 2022 World Standards Day, Acting Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry Elias Mubanga said quality and standards of products enables consumers, suppliers and regulators to have confidence that products placed on the market are safe and meet the manufacturer’s claims of quality guarantee.
Mr. Mubanga stated that Government has since continued to enhance efforts to promote quality and productivity by ensuring that the National Quality Policy is implemented and reviewed to meet the current trends.
“Participation in standardization enables the country to be well informed on standards that can enhance the attainment of Sustainable Development Goals which represent a shared vision for peace and prosperity, for people and the planet. Every Sustainable Development Goal is a call for action, but we can only get there if we work together as a nation.”
“The Sustainable Development Goals, which project to address social imbalances, develop a sustainable economy, and slow the rate of climate change, are highly ambitious. To reach them will require the cooperation of many public and private partners, and the use of all available tools, including international standards and conformity assessment,” Mr. Mubanga stated.
He added that Zambia is on the trajectory to accelerate industrialization for economic growth and sustainable development, therefore guaranteeing compliance to set standards is key.
“Zambia has adopted international standards on energy efficiency and management, water and sanitation, and environmental management to facilitate the attainment of the SDGs. I appeal to you all to take an interest to make use of these published standards that are available to the public.”
“By closely following the activities around the world standards day event in appreciating the role that standards play globally we can be rest assured of collectively achieving enhanced networking with standardization stakeholders, including industry, Government regulators, and consumer representatives, as well as pay tribute to the collaborative work of the Zambian experts engaged in international standardization,” he stated.
Mr. Mubanga also said the National Developmental Plans have been established to stabilise the economy and restore growth with full alignment to the Eighth National Development Plan (8NDP) under the strategic development Pillar Economic Transformation and Job Creation.

“Economic transformation is anchored on industrialization with a focus on value-addition in the agriculture, mining, manufacturing and tourism sectors all of which are dependent on quality and standards to contribute to economic development. The Government will therefore continue to provide an enabling and supportive environment through the delivery of requisite policies, regulations and infrastructure that support quality and standards.”
This year’s World Standards Day is being commemorated under the theme “Our Shared Vision for a Better World.”

The day is celebrated in order to raise awareness of the importance of standardization to the world economy and promotes its role in helping to meet the needs of business, industry, government and consumers worldwide.
