Government completes pilot National Census

• Census of Population and Housing will be held from 1st November to 28 November 2021.
• This will be the country’s first electronic-census.
• ZamStats has exhibited admirable capacity to ensure that the objective is achieved.

Minister of National Development Planning has disclosed that Zambia Statistics Agency (ZamStats) has successfully completed the mapping and listing exercise, as well as the pilot National Census of Population and Housing.
Speaking during the unveiling of the new ZamStats Board of Directors, Alexander Chiteme said this will be the country’s first electronic-census and ZamStats has exhibited admirable capacity to ensure that the objective is achieved.
Mr. Chiteme however stated that the statistical reform process will need a lot of stakeholder sensitization and sustained staff capacity development to enable the Agency effectively play its apex coordination role in statistical space.
“Preparations for the National Census of Population and Housing started some time back in 2016 and I wish to acknowledge your leadership role in providing human, technical and financial resources towards this undertaking,” Mr. Chiteme said
He said the Census of Population and Housing (CPH) will be held from 1st November to 28 November 2021.
“As you may be aware, Cabinet on 8th April 2021, approved the holding of the Census of Population and Housing (CPH) in November 2021,” he added.
And Mr. Chiteme said the unveiling of the ZamStats Board of Directors represents a significant milestone in government’s statistical reform programme.
He urged the new ZamStats Board to acquaint themselves with the operations of the Agency and support the undertaking of the 2021 census of population and housing in November this year.
