Government disburses over K457 million Social Cash Transfer funds

• As at June 17th, 2022, Government has disbursed K457, 477, 708. 40 Social Cash Transfer funds for May/June.
• It is Government’s resolve to ensure that the disbursement of the Social Cash Transfer remains constant.
• The programme covers all the 116 districts and has so far reached 974,160 households countrywide.

Government has disclosed that it has disbursed K457, 477, 708.40 Social Cash Transfer funds for May and June to the 116 districts across the country, as at 17th June, 2022.
In a statement, Chief Government Spokesperson Chushi Kasanda said out of the 116 districts, 84 have confirmed receiving the money in their accounts.
Ms. Kasanda, who is also Information and Media Minister, said it is Government’s resolve to ensure that the disbursement of the Social Cash Transfer remains constant and consistent for the benefit of the eligible households.
She revealed that the program, which covers all the 116 districts, has so far reached 974,160 households countrywide.
Ms. Kasanda appealed to the beneficiaries to get in touch with the District Welfare Assistance Committees in their respective districts to access their funds.
“I am happy to state that Government has remained consistent in the disbursement of Social Cash Transfer to beneficiaries across the country as provided for in the 2022 National Budget.”
“The main objective of the Social Cash Transfer Programme is to reduce extreme poverty and the intergenerational transfer of poverty among households across the country,” Ms. Kasanda said.

Government through the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services has been implementing the Social Cash Transfer Programme and the target population for the programme is incapacitated as well as extremely poor households.

Beneficiary households are entitled to K200 per month which they receive every two months as a sum of K400, while those with a member with severe disability receive K400 per month and K800 every two months.
