• The TAZARA case has been on government’s priority list of the developmental programmes.

Minister of Transport and Logistics has disclosed that government has released K33 million for clearance of salary arrears for Tanzania Zambia Railway Authority (TAZARA) workers.

Frank Tayali said the funds will cover salaries for the period up to end of September, 2022.

Mr. Tayali stated that government is poised to continue fulfilling all the promises made to Zambians by improving their livelihood, adding that the TAZARA case has been on government’s priority list of the developmental programmes that it has committed itself to achieving.

He commended TAZARA staff for their patience and good behavior during the tough times and also believing in their Government.

And Mr. Tayali said following completion of repair works on damaged Chambeshi Railway Bridge, cargo trains have now started moving.

He is elated to note that what he assured the workers last year when he visited and interacted with them followed by the inspection of the accident scene, the challenges they faced will now be a thing of the past.

“After the successful completion of the Bridge, President Hakainde Hichilema has instructed that the passenger trains must immediately start operating on the TAZARA,” Mr. Tayali said.

He further urged the TAZARA staff to guard the facilities jealously.

This is according to a statement issued by Ministry’s Public Relations Officer, Ndubi Mvula.
