Government to enhance Science, Technology and Innovation in Schools.

Minister of Higher Education says government is committed to enhancing Science, Technology and Innovation in learning institutions in order to promote productivity and competitiveness in the economy.


Speaking at the launch of the 2019-2021 Strategic Plan and Balanced Scorecard for National Science and Technology Council, Dr. Brian Mushimba said Industrialization is top on Government’s agenda as evidenced by the approval of the industrialization policy and 7th National Development Plan (7NDP).


Dr. Mushimba added that it is for this reason that in its Strategic Plan, the Council has responded to the aspirations of the 7NDP and focused its strategies on promoting Science, Technology and Innovation for the purpose of industrialization and bettering the quality of life in the country.


“From a regional and global perspective, the SADC Industrialization strategy and unsustainable development goals to which Zambia is party, recognizes the significance of investment in Science, Technology and Innovation, placing emphasis on human Capital and Infrastructure development as key drivers for industrialization,” Dr. Mushimba stated.


He further said “the realization of vision 2030 is also anchored on maximizing on the catalytic role that Science, Technology and innovation plays in Socio-economic development of the country.”
And Dr. Mushimba was hopeful that the Council’s Strategic plan will also positively contribute towards achieving key milestones through Science, Technology and Innovation financing, Science and Technology Human Capital development among others.
He urged the Council to continue engaging stakeholders including research institutions and development partners like the World Bank as they implement the Plan.


Speaking at the same function, Council Board Chairperson Dr. Henry Musenge said the three year Strategic Plan will give the Council core strategic direction while outlying measurable targets.
