National organizing Committee for the Commemoration of the World consumer rights says governments are encouraged to enact laws that protect consumers from unfair commercial practices and help ensure the environment is preserved for future generations benefit.
Speaking during a Media briefing in Lusaka, Committee Chairperson Calvin Sakala said “consumer education and Business engagement are key activities under an effective consumer protection policy.”
Mr Sakala noted that consumers have the right to a sustainable environment in which they contribute to ensuring that their habits do not reduce the capacity of other people.”
He said this year’s theme for the commemoration of the Worlds consumer day which falls on 15th March 2020 is dubbed “The Sustainable Consumer.”
Me Sakala added that consumer protection is an important tool which promotes and empowers consumers to stand up for the rights and to make informed and “sustainable choices.”
He said the effective enforcement of consumer protection laws helps protects consumer’s rights and provide channels for dispute resolution ad redress.
