The Ministry of Commerce Trade and Industry says they are putting in place measures to ensure that there is a balance of Trade between Zambia and South Africa.
This follows concerns that Zambia imports more than it exports to that country and therefore creating unfair trade between the two countries.
Commerce Trade and Industry Permanent Secretary Kayula Siame says her ministry is engaging various local Manufacturers on increasing their production capacities through various quality infrastructure that is in Place.
She says in an interview that this is why standards agencies such as the Zambia Metrology Agency, the Zambia Compulsory Standards Agency and the Zambia Bureau of Standards are in place.
Ms. Siame says the ministry is also working on increasing technical and financial support to local manufacturers and says it is a long-term measure that the ministry has given a lot of priority to.
The P.S says they are also trying to Increase industrial Base in the manufacturing Sector to this effect.
Data of the November 2018 international Trade indicates that Zambia exported 4.5 percent worth of goods to south Africa while total imports from that country were at 33.3 percent in the same month.
