Govt focusing on domestic revenue collection

The Ministry of Finance says it is focusing on reducing fiscal deficit by concentrating on domestic revenue collection.
Ministry of Finance Permanent Secretary in Charge of Budge Dr. Emmanuel Pamu says the government is ensuring that it reduces revenue linkages by coming up with measures aimed at increasing domestic revenue collection.
Dr. Pamu says the decision to abolish Value Added Tax (VAT) and replace it with Sales Tax will help the country in terms of revenue collection.
Ministry of Finance Permanent Secretary in Charge of Budge said this last evening during the British Chamber of Commerce and Money FM Business Radio even on Taxation.
Dr. Pamu VAT has challenges such as the double claims and fraud saying this is not helping the government.
He also says the government has put up measures to repay the Eurobonds such as the establishment of the sinking fund and refinancing plan.
Speaking at the same event, KPMG Partner Mafipe Chunga says there is need for government to ensure that the border areas to maximize on tax collection as opposed to closing the borders.
Meanwhile, a Tax Consultant John Kasanga says the government needs to walk the talk in terms of widening the tax base.
Mr. Kasanga says the government should also consult widely on some of the tax policies and give enough time before implementing them.
And Money FM Business Radio Executive Chairman Chisebwe Fumbeshi says the radio station will continue with such engagements as it strives to disseminate business related information.
And in her welcoming remarks, Money FM Business Radio Chief Executive Officer Nkhonde Fumbeshi assured that this is the beginning of such engagements as the station continues to encourage the people to think business.
