The Tanzania Zambia Railway Authority (TAZARA) Workers Union has disclosed that it has received K5 million from government to pay one-month salary arrears owed to the workers.
TAZARA Workers Union General Secretary Julius Banda says government still owes the workers three months’ salary arrears.
Mr. Banda has told Money FM News in an interview via telephone that even though workers have received one-month salary arrear, they have not shown any promises of getting back to work.
He said the TAZARA Union addressed Kapiri Mposhi workers last Friday and was on Monday addressing Mpika and they all refused to resume work.
He said the workers want to get concrete commitment and assurance from either government or the TAZARA Management on their arrears.
Unionized workers at the Tanzania Zambia Railway Authority (TAZARA) have being striking to press for payment of their three month salary arrears.
The strike has paralyzed movement of both goods and passenger trains on the Zambian side forcing management to step-in to move locomotives between Kapiri Mposhi and Nakonde railway terminus.
