Govt seeks investors in agric sector

Central Province Minister Sydney Mushanga says the Province seeks investments in agriculture sector in order to increase its production capability to a level where it can single-handedly meet the Nation’s domestic and export food market demands.

Mr. Mushanga says the Province seeks investors to establish industries to undertake processing and value addition agricultural activities.

“Central Province has favorable climate, fertile land, and vast water resources with great agricultural potential for investment. Currently the government has zero rated import tax on agricultural inputs to encourage the sector,” he discloses.

He says available arable land has been earmarked in a number of districts of central province including Luano, about 180,000 hectares of land.

He adds that this land is favourable for crop, cattle and goat ranching.

He states that in Mumbwa District about 200,000 hectares of arable land exists for investment while in Serenje District over 80,000 hectares of land has been identified.

He further discloses that in Chitambo District about 53,000 hectares of good fertile land has been identified and in Ngabwe District more than 90,000 hectares of land has been identified for rice growing and other agricultural uses.
