Govt urged to reduce interest rates to help women in business

Zambia Association of Women has appealed to government to consider reducing interest rates as this hinders more women to enter into business.
Association Programmes Manager Ceaser Katebe tells Money FM News that access to productive assets such as land and equipment for women in agribusiness in Zambia remains one of the challenges that women face.
“Research has shown that women get land that is of lesser size and inadequate for productivity. Another challenge is that women in business find it difficult to have access to finance due to high interest rates,” he said.
Mr. Katebe says interest rates are way too high and that women in business find it difficult to repay or service their loans at about 35%.
He says the state should strive not to suffocate the private sector with policies.
