The Road Development Agency says the Great North road has been completely cut-off at Lifune Stream, Danger Hill area 25 kilometres from Mpika town going up north.
RDA Director Communications and Corporate Affairs Masuzyo Ndhlovu tells Money FM News in a statement that an Armco culvert between Mpika and Chinsali in Muchinga Province has been washed-away.
Mr. Ndhlovu says the trench is approximately 25 metres wide and 12 metres deep.
He says the unfortunate incident has been attributed to flash floods being experienced in the area.
“Engineers from RDA are already on site to assess the situation with works expected to immediately commence and it is anticipated that light motor vehicles will start crossing today,” he said.
He adds that a diversion will also be put up as another intervention for Heavy Goods Vehicles and works will go on throughout the night.
“Traffic going to Nakonde and Isoka is advised to use Mpika- Kasama- Mbala-Nakonde road,” he advised.
