Hand sanitizers, disinfectants must conform to recommended standards – ZAMRA

Zambia Medicines Regulatory Authority (ZAMRA) has reaffirmed calls for manufacturers, importers and distributors of hand sanitizers and disinfectants to ensure that such products conform to recommended formulations and standards set by the Authority before placement on the market.
Authority Senior Public Relations Officer Christabel Iliampu also advised business outlets across the country to ensure that hand sanitizers and disinfectants placed for use at their respective entrances are purchased from authorized manufacturers and distributors.
Ms. Iliampu said this is to promote effective mitigation and prevention of the pandemic by ensuring that all COVID-19 related products made available to citizens consistently meet the required standards of quality, safety and effectiveness.
“Additionally, members of the public are encouraged to purchase all medicines and allied substances from reputable stores and outlets to be assured of their quality,” Ms. Iliampu said.

“The Authority remains resolute in undertaking inspections and surveillance of business outlets and manufacturing companies that are producing and those that intend to start producing allied substances such as hand sanitizers and disinfectants in order to ensure conformity to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP),” she stated.
