Health Sector in $2 billion windfall – MoH

• Cooperating partners to support service delivery and health system strengthening.
• Will cover the medium term expenditure framework of 2021 to 2023.
• Africa Centre for Disease Control announced its commitment to contribute $25 million towards the acquisition of Covid-19 vaccines.

Government says it will receive a contribution of about $2 billion from cooperating partners to support service delivery and health system strengthening covering the medium term expenditure framework of 2021 to 2023.
Speaking during a press briefing, Health Minister Dr. Jonas Chanda said Cooperating Partners support has increased by 29 percent from last year, whose commitments stood at 639 million, three hundred thousand, three hundred and sixty three dollars in 2020 to 821 million, Nine hundred and ten thousand, seven hundred and sixty four US dollars this year.
Dr. Chanda further revealed that the Africa Centre for Disease Control (CDC) through the Southern Africa regional collaborating center coordinator also announced its commitment to contribute $25 million towards the acquisition of Covid-19 vaccines for health workers in Africa.
He said the Annual Consultative Meeting which was held on Thursday, 4th February, 2021, gave an opportunity to the Cooperating Partners, bilateral and multilateral institutions to indicate commitments towards the 2021 budget and Medium Term Expenditure Framework.
“The Annual Consultative Meeting provides a platform to review the health sector performance, provide policy and strategic direction while giving an opportunity to all our partners and stakeholders to provide guidance and feedback to the ministry,” Dr. Chanda said.
“It is the highest governance dialogue forum in the coordination framework of the sector wide approach mechanism.”
And Dr. Chanda has expressed gratitude to all cooperating partners and other key stakeholders for their continued supported towards the fight against the pandemic and government’s goal to improving healthcare services amidst the low confidence levels in the Ministry of Health.
“This shows that our cooperating partners have renewed confidence in the governance of the country,” he said.
He has since assured the partners that the resources will be used transparently and accountably in order to return the value.
“I assure all our cooperating partners and stakeholders that the resources will be handled with total transparently and accountably as they are from tax in their respective nations,” Dr. Chanda said.
